Advances in science and technology have certainly improved our lives, but artists such as musicians, painters and writers are still highly valued. What can the arts tell us about life that science and technology cannot?

It is true that science and technology have made our lives better and more comfortable. In fact, it is now impossible to even imagine a life without the telephone or refrigerator. There are still a lot of things that science and technology cannot do. For example, they cannot make us more humane or compassionate.
We have got a lot of things to learn from arts and humanities. The best thing about arts and music is that they encourage us to introspect. And when we introspect, we discover a lot of things about our inner selves and our position in the universe. Arts and humanities teach us to appreciate beauty and nature. They make us better human beings. When you listen to Mozart, you learn about harmony. When you read great epics, you find answers to a lot of existential questions that all of us have asked from time to time.
Science and technology is only concerned with making things work. This is a limited view of the world. We are not robots. We have a mind and a soul and we need to nourish them in order to lead a happy and meaningful life. Science may make our physical existence easier, but it cannot make us happier or more content.
Arts help us to find meaning in life. It helps us to look at things from a spiritual point of view. Arts also provide entertainment.
When you read a great book, you find answers to many problems you face. When you listen to music, your mind becomes calm. For me, this is invaluable. When we begin to reflect about ourselves, we learn to appreciate our strengths and weaknesses. This helps us to become more humane.
